Our Story

Subtle Asian Book Club aims to uplift Asian voices
in the literary space.

Created by Tiffany and Alexandra in January 2020, Subtle Asian Book Club amplifies Asian storytellers and connects the world through stories.

Every month, we read a book written by an Asian author. Book club discussions are hosted on our Discord community, and author interviews are conducted on our blog and YouTube channel.

Meet the Founders.

Meet the Founders.

Tiffany (she/her) (@readbytiffany) is a Taiwanese-American bookstagrammer and book blogger. She had the idea of creating Subtle Asian Book Club in December 2019 and dragged encouraged Alexandra to join in launching the project.

She manages the logistical side of the club. When she isn't traveling for work or organizing her life for fun, she can be found annotating her favorite books, marathoning webcomics, staying up late reading manga, and brainstorming new ideas.

Alexandra (she/her) (@twirlingpages) is a Chinese-American digital creator and film student based in NYC. She’s the co-founder of Subtle Asian Book Club and heads the creative direction.

While she originally started as a bookstagrammer and blogger, her content has evolved to center on self-improvement and stories. When she isn’t working on a new project, watching films for school, or picking up a new hobby, she can be found exploring the city, online shopping, or eating bread.

The two have been friends for over a decade, and their friendship further strengthens Subtle Asian Book Club to its magnitude today.

Although the two make the book club happen, it wouldn't be possible without the support of all the members, friends, and the rest of the team!

Breana (she/her) (@milkyboos) is a Vietnamese-American digital creator and an innocent bystander who was added to a group chat one day and now cannot escape participating in Tiffany and Alexandra's projects. When she’s not serving as moral support, she contributes as a staff writer, professional proofreader, and occasional live show guest.

Some of her favorite books include The Magic Fish by Trung Le Nguyen, Darius the Great Is Not Okay by Adib Khorram, and The Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee. She can be found playing with her demon dog, Tofu, and listening to TWICE.

Angela (they/them) is a Chinese-American student and long-time friend of Tiffany and Alexandra. When their child labor is not being exploited... JK their child labor is always being exploited, they lovingly volunteer for the book club, manage our social media, and contribute as a staff writer to the blog.

In their free time, Angela enjoys making new playlists for every minor inconvenience and spending too much time reading sports manga. Their favorite books include No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai and Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo.
